Nine people arrested in operation against online incitement to terrorism
Nine suspects have been arrested over a period of seven months as part of a campaign against online incitement to terrorism, the office of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir announced on Tuesday.
The arrests were made by a special unit that was founded in February to counter the rising incitement to terrorism on the internet. It is made up of representatives of the Israeli military, police officers, Shin Bet internal security officials and prosecutors.
So far, the unit arrested 25 others, investigated over 100 incidents, filed 40 additional investigations and deleted 759 posts from social media.
“For years, senior security officials in Israel have been warning that social media is fertile ground for terrorist organizations to exploit,” Ben Gvir said.
