Nigeria: Gunmen abduct dozens of Christian worshippers from churches during Sunday service
Armed gangs raided at least two churches in Nigeria earlier this week, abducting dozens of worshippers during Sunday services.
Church leaders told AFP that the true number of kidnapped Christians in Kaduna state may be as high as 160. The kidnappings highlight long-standing, largely overlooked persecution of Christians in the region, an issue that has only recently begun to draw wider international attention.
The attacks come less than one month after the U.S. launched strikes on ISIS-Sahel bases in northwest Nigeria.
President Trump announced the operation on social media, saying: “I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was.” The December 2025 strikes were conducted in coordination with the Nigerian military.
