Netanyahu’s office confirms Syria strike, says Damascus allowed Turkish troop deployment

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israel carried out the strike on Syria’s Abu al-Duhur airbase, saying Damascus was on the verge of violating an agreed security status quo by allowing Turkish forces to deploy at the base near Aleppo.

The Prime Minister’s Office said Israel had repeatedly warned Syria that such a deployment would threaten Israeli security but that Damascus ignored the warnings. Israel said it “will not tolerate threats to its security” and would welcome a return to the security status quo.
