Netanyahu refers to UK as ‘Islamic Republic of Britain’ in radio interview
In an interview with Army Radio on Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu jokingly referred to the United Kingdom as “the Islamic Republic of Britain.”
The remark came as Netanyahu contrasted what he described as the Churchill family’s favorable coverage of Israel during the Six-Day War with attitudes toward Israel in Britain today.
“Someone said the first nuclear Islamic republic will be the Islamic Republic of Britain,” Netanyahu said. “So we’re making sure there won’t be another one over here in Iran.”
