Netanyahu joins criticism of Knesset member over terror monument-smashing
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu joined members of the coalition and opposition in condemning Religious Zionism Party MK Tzvi Sukkot, who smashed a monument dedicated to “martyrs” of Palestinian terrorism on Tuesday morning.
“The IDF has overriding authority on security in Judea and Samaria and is entrusted with implementing the decisions of the political echelon,” Netanyahu said. “Taking the law into one’s own hands, particularly by public figures, is unacceptable and hinders the IDF from focusing on its missions of combating terror and incitement.”
Sukkot arrived in Madama, near Nablus, under the protection of Border Police and the IDF, which were reportedly “caught off guard” by his actions.
“Is there some sophisticated strategy here that I don’t understand, or have we simply decided to commit political suicide?” fellow Religious Zionism Party MK Ohad Tal asked Israeli media outlets, reflecting unease within Sukkot’s own party.
