Netanyahu hits back after Macron says Hamas ‘never operated’ in West Bank: ‘Absurd’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office criticized French President Emmanuel Macron after he said at the UN General Assembly that Hamas had “never been active” in the West Bank.

“The grotesque absurdity of Emmanuel Macron’s statement is staggering,” Netanyahu’s office said, pointing to the killing two days earlier of Netanel Shukrun, a French citizen and father of six, in a Hamas-claimed shooting attack in Judea and Samaria.

A French diplomatic official later said Macron meant that Hamas does not govern the West Bank, rather than that it has never operated there.
