'Millions of Christian pilgrims' expected in Israel for 2,000th anniversary of Jesus’ baptism
The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday that it is preparing for the 2,000th anniversary of Jesus' baptism in 2030.
Describing the anniversary as “a milestone of profound spiritual significance for more than two billion Christians worldwide,” the ministry said in a post on X that it had established a working group to “deepen dialogue with churches and Christian leaders worldwide and prepare for the arrival of millions of Christian pilgrims.”
While Israel’s Jordan River baptism sites attract thousands of Christian pilgrims each year, the initiative appears to mark a broader effort led by Ambassador George Deek, Israel’s Special Envoy to the Christian World.
