French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Syria on Monday for a historic visit, where he was welcomed by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.
The trip marks the first visit by a European Union leader to Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, and only the second visit by any European leader, following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's trip.
Macron said the visit reflects “the continuation of our unwavering support for the Syrian people.”
