Macron signs guestbook at Damascus’ Umayyad Mosque during landmark Syria visit
French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Syria on Monday, marking the first visit by a Western leader since the fall of the Assad regime.
“I have come to express France’s commitment to the Syrian people, to a sovereign Syria, united in its pluralism and at peace with its neighbors,” he wrote on X, adding: “Together, let's open a new chapter of stability and peace.”
Videos circulating on social media showed Macron alongside Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa as the two leaders signed the guestbook at the Umayyad Great Mosque in Damascus on Monday evening.
