Likelihood of Iran escalation rising but no indications for imminent attack, official says - report
Against the background of escalating exchanges of fire between the U.S. and Iran, the likelihood of Israel being dragged in has increased significantly, though there are currently no indications the regime is preparing to fire at Israel, an Israeli official told Channel 12 News.
"We are in continuous contact with the Americans, but one thing is certain: Trump is unpredictable. At the moment, it appears that the decision to raise the level of strikes against Iran will be carried out," a senior official told the channel.
He continued, "We are preparing for every possible scenario and developing both immediate operational options and long-term strategic ones. If the Americans decide to escalate or involve Israel, or alternatively if the Iranians carry out an unexpected and unwise move against us, we will be ready."
The report added that Trump's envoys are trying to halt the cycle of escalation and restart negotiations, and that Israel's political leadership received an assessment in recent hours that, for now, there are no indications that Iran intends to launch attacks against Israel.
