Lebanese critics of Hezbollah fear Iran deal will strengthen the group
Opponents of Hezbollah in Lebanon are expressing concern that the emerging agreement between the United States and Iran could strengthen the Iran-backed group and weaken efforts to curb its influence and disarm it.
According to Kan News, figures in Lebanon’s anti-Hezbollah camp believe the understandings taking shape between Washington and Tehran could shift the balance of power in Hezbollah’s favor.
A Lebanese politician told Kan News that if the current memorandum of understanding evolves into a permanent agreement, “it would be a disaster,” arguing that it would undermine those seeking to reduce Hezbollah’s military and political power.
