Lebanese Army claims it demilitarized southern Lebanon, without mentioning Hezbollah
Ahead of a meeting of Lebanon’s cabinet, the Lebanese Army said this morning (Thursday) that its plan to place all weapons solely under state control has reached an advanced phase with the successful completion of the first stage south of the Litani River through active field operations.
The statement said the phase focused on expanding the army’s operational presence, securing key areas, and enforcing control over territories under its jurisdiction south of the Litani, excluding areas and positions still occupied by Israel.
The Lebanese Army emphasized that operations in this area are still ongoing until the unexploded ordnance and tunnels are dealt with, alongside efforts to take additional measures to consolidate control, in order to prevent armed groups from rebuilding their capabilities.
The Lebanese Army Command will also conduct a comprehensive and full assessment of the first phase of the “Homeland Shield Plan” to determine the course of the plan’s subsequent stages.
