Lebanese ambassador to US calls Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter following his son’s serious injury
Lebanon’s ambassador to the United States called Israel’s ambassador to the country, Yechiel Leiter, following the serious injury of his son in a car-ramming attack last week, Kan News reported Sunday evening.
Western diplomatic officials told a Lebanese journalist affiliated with Hezbollah that Lebanon’s ambassador to the US, Nada Mouawad, called Leiter, who returned to Israel after his son, Neria, was seriously wounded in last week’s car-ramming attack on Route 443.
According to the report, the Lebanese ambassador condemned the attack during the conversation and expressed solidarity with Leiter. The Israeli Embassy in the US did not deny the report, saying it would not comment.
The Lebanese ambassador to the United States and Ambassador Leiter have recently met in Washington in an effort to restart the complex negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, and appear to be working in close cooperation.
Based on this, as well as the Israeli Embassy in Washington’s decision not to deny the report, there is a high likelihood that such a conversation did indeed take place. The journalist who reported the conversation and is affiliated with Hezbollah is already attempting to portray it as the Lebanese ambassador bowing to Israel rather than as a humanitarian gesture.
