Kurds in Syria accuse Turkey of seeking control over al-Sharaa’s forces
Syrian Kurdish forces accuse Turkey of blocking their integration into Syria’s army in order to maintain control over it.
Tensions have risen in northern Syria amid disputes over implementing a March agreement with President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s government. Kurdish officials reject Turkish claims that Israel is influencing their stance, calling them “completely false,” and say Ankara is pressuring Damascus to harden its position.
A senior Kurdish source said Turkey opposes the integration of some 120,000 Kurdish fighters as a single unit, fearing it would weaken Turkish influence and strengthen U.S. and French involvement in shaping the Syrian military.
