Jews attacked en route to Hanukkah candle lighting in Turkey

An antisemitic incident took place Sunday evening in Istanbul, where pro-Palestinian demonstrators targeted Jews on their way to a Hanukkah candle-lighting at a local synagogue, according to footage circulating on social media.

The videos show a crowd waving Palestinian flags and shouting slogans such as “I don’t want Zionists in my country,” along with other antisemitic chants. Police forces intervened and prevented physical contact between the demonstrators and the Jewish group.

The incident follows a series of recent antisemitic attacks abroad, including the stabbing of a Jewish man in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood last week and an incident two days ago during a basketball game between Hapoel Tel Aviv and Panathinaikos in Greece, when club owner Ofer Yannay was shoved on the court by a Panathinaikos fan sitting courtside. The fan also shouted “dirty Jew” at him while pointing at his kippah.
