Israel’s Nobel laureate Ciechanover: “The academic boycott has reached me”
Israel’s Nobel Prize laureate in chemistry Prof. Aaron Ciechanover told Kan Culture: “Israel is on a dangerous slope. The country relies on science and technology not only economically but also for its security — the boycott threatens our very existence.”
Ciechanover revealed that he, too, has been affected by academic boycotts, which he said often take the form of a “quiet,” evasive boycott. He recounted that “a well-regarded European university asked me to give a Zoom lecture. They later informed me that, for a ‘technical reason,’ the lecture was canceled. What technical reason? It’s Zoom — they don’t need police or protection. The explanation is absurd. It’s clearly happening, and on a frightening scale.”
