Israel’s High Court strikes down government decision to dismiss attorney general
Israel’s Supreme Court on Sunday overturned the government’s decision to dismiss Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, ruling she will remain in office.
In a 7-justice panel decision, the court said the dismissal was deeply flawed, citing a rushed process, lack of factual or legal basis, no professional consultation, and deviation from established procedures. The justices also criticized the government for altering the dismissal mechanism after announcing its intent and stressed that the rule of law applies to all state authorities.
The ruling voided the dismissal and barred any unilateral action to change the attorney general’s status, powers, or role.
