Israeli NBA Star Deni Avdija maintains hope amid back injury, Blazers’ first loss after winning streak
Deni Avdija, Israeli NBA player for the Portland Trail Blazers, suffered a lower back injury as the Knicks (25-14) ended the team’s five-game winning streak.
ESPN reported that Avdija exited early in the final minutes of the fourth quarter “due to an apparent back issue.” He finished with a team-high of 25 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
“I just felt my back give out, and I couldn’t straighten up,” Avdija said, adding that he was not concerned and expected to recover quickly. “I’m telling you, as soon as I’m walking on two feet, I’ll be able to play.”
Avdija is now Israel’s leading NBA scorer of all time. Earlier this month he also became the first Israeli to be named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week.
