Israeli-based Waze navigation app launches new feature in Israel - public bomb shelter locator

The navigation app Waze, which was developed in Israel, recently launched a new feature in Israel to enable drivers to locate public shelters during emergencies. Previously users were able search for public bomb shelters by typing in a search, now they can access a list of nearby shelters with the click of a button.

The new option is available as a quick selection option in on the app's search screen, under a dedicated button called “Emergency." Clicking it opens a list of public shelters in the user’s vicinity.

The system only displays shelters available to the general public shelters, not private shelters or those located inside businesses, even if those are closer. The new feature enables those commuting to work or other locations to quickly find shelter in the event of an alarm.
