Israel gathered intel on “morning operation” a day before Oct. 7, but IDF record missing
An Israeli intelligence mission conducted over Gaza a day before the October 7 attack detected information indicating that some form of action was planned for the following morning, Kan News reported on Thursday.
The mission, carried out on October 6, was aimed at gathering intelligence on guards at a tunnel where Israel believed hostage Avera Mengistu was being held. While the information obtained was not fully clear, it raised a “red flag” and was passed on to the Southern Command, where sources said it was assessed at the time as likely a Hamas exercise.
For reasons that remain unclear, records of the inquiry and documentation of the mission do not appear in IDF systems or in the investigations that reviewed the events of the night preceding the massacre.
