Israel conducts surprise drill simulating multi-front scenario
Early Sunday morning (today), IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir launched a surprise drill to test the military’s readiness to respond to a sudden, large-scale, multi-front scenario.
The IDF said the exercise is designed to “examine the alertness and readiness” of its headquarters, the readiness of standby forces and “the ability to deal with a sudden, complex, multi-front, and large-scale event.” The drill is also intended to strengthen the military’s preparedness ahead of the upcoming Jewish holiday period.
As part of the surprise exercise, commanders across the IDF’s regional commands, directorates and branches were ordered to report to their headquarters, while standby and reserve forces were also mobilized. The Times of Israel reported that the exercise was kept under a highly restricted level of secrecy, with only a small number of officers aware of it in advance, including some senior officers at the rank of major general.
