Israel praises Peru for severing ties with Iran
Israel’s U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon on Tuesday praised Peru’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with Iran and urged other countries to follow suit.
In a post on X Wednesday, Danon said: “There is no place for ‘business as usual’ with a regime that represses its own people, spreads terrorism and violence across the Middle East, and threatens international peace and security."
Peru announced the move on Monday, citing Iran’s repression of peaceful protests, restrictions on press freedom, discrimination against women and girls, obstruction of IAEA inspections and disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The statement noted that consular ties would remain in place.
Conservative politician Keiko Fujimori won Peru's presidential elections in July.
