Israel Police to indict Jewish settler who took part in recent Huwara riot

The Israel Police announced it will file an indictment against the first of several suspects involved in a violent riot by a group of Israelis in the Palestinian town of Huwara some two weeks ago, Army Radio reported.

The incident received widespread attention after a group of settlers drove to Huwara in a white pickup with black facemasks, drawing comparisons to the appearance of Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7. In addition, footage allegedly filmed during the attack showed a figure dressed in IDF uniform taking part in the beating of a Palestinian man.

While one of the suspects is expected to be indicted, the court decided to release six of the other detainees. The police will appeal the decision, and the Judea and Samaria District said that additional arrests are expected in connection with the case.
