Herzog offers condolences to new Colombian president as earthquake toll surpasses 100

Israeli President Isaac Herzog offered his condolences to newly sworn-in Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella and to the Colombian people after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the country on Monday.

“From Jerusalem, my heart goes out to the families of all those who lost their lives. The people of Israel are praying for the injured, and that all those still missing will be located and brought to safety as quickly as possible,” Herzog said in a post on X.

As of Tuesday morning, the death toll in western Colombia had risen to more than 100.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said he offered Israeli assistance to his Colombian counterpart.

Israel’s offer comes less than two months after the country carried out an extended post-earthquake relief mission in neighboring Venezuela following a series of earthquakes there in late June.
