Iraq warned ahead of possible large-scale Israeli strikes — report

Iraq has received warning messages in recent weeks from both an Arab country and a Western country that Israel is planning extensive military strikes on Iraqi territory, the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported on Friday.

According to the report, a Western intelligence agency delivered Baghdad a detailed Israeli intelligence document outlining pro-Iranian militias, their senior figures, financial networks, and government institutions allegedly under their influence. Iraqi officials were said to be “stunned” by the scope and precision of the information, with one source noting the timing was “critical.”

Iraq’s official news agency later denied that formal warnings had been received, citing the Iraqi intelligence service.

The report said the warnings prompted Shiite parties within the Coordination Framework alliance to move toward addressing the issue of militia weapons, amid fears Israel could target militia-linked government bodies, the Popular Mobilization Forces, weapons depots, drone and missile sites, and training camps.
