Iran's supreme leader barred from father's funeral over assassination fears - report

Iranian security officials prevented Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei from attending the funeral of his father, Ali Khamenei, due to concerns that Israel could attempt to assassinate him, The New York Times reported.

According to the report, security officials prohibited Mojtaba Khamenei from appearing at the funeral out of fear that his presence could reveal his location or make him a target for an Israeli strike. The report adds that the concerns followed the deaths of his wife and son in a joint U.S.-Israeli strike on the first day of Operation Roaring Lion.
