Iranian diplomat points to major rift within the regime
An Iranian diplomat told The Wall Street Journal that growing divisions have emerged among members of Iran's ruling establishment amid the country's economic difficulties and U.S. pressure on Tehran, including a blockade of the country's ports.
The rift is between pragmatists, who fear that a renewed blockade would further damage an already struggling economy, and hardliners, who want to aggressively pursue control over the Strait of Hormuz as leverage against the United States.
