Iran rejects Omani proposal for shared control of Strait of Hormuz - report
Iran has rejected an Omani proposal for equal control over the Strait of Hormuz, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing officials familiar with the mediation efforts.
According to the report, officials from countries mediating talks between the United States and Iran expressed frustration over Tehran's rejection, saying it had undermined efforts to revive a memorandum of understanding between the two sides.
A senior Iranian official told Reuters that only Iran and Oman have the authority to decide arrangements governing the strait, adding that Tehran rejects any role for other countries and insists that the entire inbound shipping lane and part of the outbound lane remain under Iranian control.
