INTERPOL uses AI to identify 126 terror suspects from jihadist content

INTERPOL used artificial intelligence to identify 126 terror suspects in a first-of-its-kind operation targeting terrorist networks online, the organization said Friday.

In June, Officers and experts from 11 countries met in Tunis, Tunisia, as part of Operation Shams II, where they extracted over 108,000 facial images from content published by jihadist groups.

AI tools helped narrow the collection to more than 6,000 unique, high-quality images for facial-recognition analysis.

According to INTERPOL, thousands of images remain under review and could yield additional matches.
