IDF warns Hamas terrorists still hiding in Israel’s south, waiting for opportunity to strike
Israel Defense Forces issued a warning on Wednesday that Hamas terror cells are still present in the southern part of Israel, particularly in the Negev region.
The IDF estimates that between 1,500 to 2,000 Hamas terrorists entered Israel from Gaza on Oct. 7.
Most either returned to Gaza or were killed in the fighting to secure the border. However, the IDF believes that some terror cells were instructed to remain in Israeli territory in order to carry out further attacks.
With the IDF amassing troops and armored units on the border for a possible ground invasion, the threat of attacks from Hamas elements at the rear, or attacks at the Egyptian border against fleeing refugees continue to pose concerns for the IDF.
