IDF limits gatherings to 5,000 people, prepares for fire after Beirut strike
The Israel Defense Force is preparing for potential fire from Hezbollah and/or Iran, following a strike that killed a Hezbollah commander in Beirut earlier.
IDF Chief of Staff, Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir "is conducting ongoing situational assessments with all relevant commanders," the military stated, noting that it "is preparing for potential fire toward the territory of the State of Israel in the coming hours."
Shortly after, the IDF Home Front Command issued new defensive guidelines, limiting public gatherings up to 5,000 people across the country.
There had been no limitations on any activities, except in communities near the northern border.
"The IDF will not tolerate fire directed toward the territory of the State of Israel," the military stressed.
