IDF kills Hamas commander who held seven Israeli hostages in Gaza
The IDF said it killed Mahmoud Abd al-Fattah Awad, a commander in Hamas’s military wing, in an airstrike in Gaza last weekend.
According to the IDF, Awad was involved during the war in holding seven hostages — Daniela Gilboa, Karina Ariev, Doron Steinbrecher, Naama Levy, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran and Eitan Mor — in an underground tunnel in Gaza City.
The military said Awad had recently been advancing attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians and working to rebuild Hamas’s capabilities, in what it described as systematic violations of the ceasefire.
