IDF intercepts drone trying to smuggle 20 rifles into Israel over the Mediterranean Sea
The Israel Defense Forces overnight intercepted a drone attempting to smuggle weapons into the country from the direction of the sea, the military said Tuesday.
"The IAF aerial control center identified a drone that crossed from the west to Israeli territory in an attempt to smuggle weapons. Following the identification, IDF troops intercepted the drone carrying 20 M-16 rifles, as well as a barrel and a stock of additional weapons," the statement read.
"The weapons located were transferred to the security forces for further processing."
The statement doesn't specify where along Israel's coastline the drone was intercepted. Most recent smuggling attempts were thwarted in the southern part of the country, where the IDF has tried to crack down on smuggling from Egypt.
