Huckabee doubles down: Americans should be 'grateful to God' for Jewish people & foundation
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee reiterated remarks that he said had unintentionally sparked controversy over the Jewish contribution to America during Sunday’s opening session of the JNS Summit in Jerusalem.
“It is upon the Jewish foundation that Christianity was formed, and upon the Jewish and Judeo-Christian foundation Western civilization was formed. And without that, there would not be an America,” he affirmed.
Referencing historical symbolism in America’s founding and biblical motifs in the White House, he continued: “Our history is tied more to Mount Sinai than it is to Athens or Rome,” adding that “it’s tied to Israel” as is the idea that rights come not from government but from God.
“Americans, whether they understand it or not, need to be grateful to God for the Jewish people,” he said, adding that those values separate America from “totalitarianism and dictatorship.”
