Germany to increase annual Yad Vashem funding to €5M as foreign minister visits Israel
Germany is set to increase its annual contribution to Yad Vashem to €5 million amid the visit of German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Israel on Tuesday.
According to the agreement, both governments recognized “the German people’s eternal responsibility” for the Holocaust and its consequences, as well as the need to confront them, and preserve and strengthen Holocaust remembrance through Yad Vashem.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar will sign the agreement with his German counterpart, after which it will be submitted to the Knesset and brought before the Israeli government for approval.
The funding increase will continue until 2030, at which point it will return to €1 million.
