German Jewish leader calls Israel ‘our life insurance’ after far-right AfD election gains
The head of the Jewish community in Germany’s Saxony-Anhalt state urged Jews not to panic following gains by the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Sunday’s elections.
“The important difference between the current situation and that of 90 years ago is the existence of the State of Israel. It is our ‘life insurance,’” he told Israel’s Army Radio.
