Gafni hits back at attorney general: ‘Yeshiva students will continue their studies — nothing will stop them’
United Torah Judaism leader Moshe Gafni pushed back against Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara after she called on police and the IDF to step up enforcement against ultra-Orthodox draft evaders.
The attorney general said draft evasion remains widespread, with ultra-Orthodox men accounting for about 80% of all draft evaders, and called for expanded personal economic sanctions and the resumption of arrests across all sectors.
Gafni responded that yeshiva students “will continue to devote themselves to Torah study, and nothing will stop them.” The dispute comes amid an ongoing legal and political battle over enforcement of the military draft.
