French lawmakers approve social media ban for minors 15 and under
France’s National Assembly overnight approved the key provision of a bill banning social media access for children under 15, putting France on track to become the first European country — and the second worldwide after Australia — to impose such a restriction.
The bill drew broad cross-party support, citing studies linking heavy social media use to rising anxiety and depression among youth.
The measure now moves to the Senate. President Emmanuel Macron has called for an accelerated process so the ban can take effect by September 1, with the start of the next school year.
