Finnish military chief visits Israel as Helsinki moves to integrate David’s Sling
Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, General Janne Jaakkola, visited Israel and met with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir. The visit comes as Finland develops a multi-layered ground-based air defense system and integrates Israel’s David’s Sling system into it—an effort that, according to the IDF, is progressing as planned and is being tailored to NATO’s defense architecture.
The Israeli system was presented to the Finnish delegation, alongside professional discussions on the operational experience gained from its use. Meetings with Zamir and other senior commanders also focused on security developments in the Middle East, particularly in Lebanon, as well as lessons learned from battlefields over the past several years.
A senior Israeli security official said that ties with Finland are part of a broader effort by the IDF to deepen partnerships with friendly militaries. “The ability of armed forces to learn from one another and draw lessons is a force multiplier, especially at a time when the nature of warfare and the threats are changing rapidly,” the official said.
