Fearing yeshiva budget freeze, Israel’s ultra-Orthodox weigh halting passage of draft exemption law
Ultra-Orthodox leaders are considering halting efforts to pass the draft law, amid assessments by the IDF and legal advisers that the bill’s targets do not meet the army’s needs, Kan News reported on Sunday.
Haredi parties fear that even if the law passes, it will not restore yeshiva funding, as the High Court could strike it down or issue an interim injunction blocking the transfer of budgets due to the lack of viable legislation.
