Eilat approves increase in Jordanian workers for tourism
Senior leaders from the southern city of Eilat and the Jordanian leaders of Aqaba decided on Wednesday to increase the number of work permits for Jordanians working in tourism in Eilat.
Eilat and Aqaba, which lay next to each other at the northern part of the Red Sea, both rely heavily upon income from tourism.
Many foreign tourists who come to Eilat also enter Jordan in Aqaba to visit southern archaeological sites, such as Petra.
The new agreement will allow an additional 1,150 Jordanian workers to cross into Eilat for work in tourism, infrastructure and agriculture.
The two delegations discussed other joint initiatives, such as combined tourist packages, water pollution management and the possibility of direct flights between the Eilat and Aqaba airports.
