Egypt presses Israel to open Rafah crossing in both directions
Israel informed Egypt last week that it intends to open the Rafah crossing only for Gazans exiting the Strip, Kan Reshet Bet reported Thursday morning.
According to the report, Cairo conveyed sharp messages to Jerusalem, saying it does not understand why Israel is willing to fully reopen the Allenby Crossing with Jordan while refusing to do the same at Rafah.
Egypt made clear that opening Rafah exclusively for outbound Gazan traffic would be interpreted as Egyptian consent to forced migration — a red line and a threat to Egypt’s national security.
