Egypt, in first response to Israel’s gas deal approval: “It is a commercial agreement, nothing more”
Egypt issued its first official response on Thursday to Israel’s approval of a bilateral gas deal, stressing that the agreement is purely commercial and carries no political implications.
The head of Egypt’s State Information Service said the deal was signed solely on the basis of economic and investment considerations, adding that it serves Egypt’s clear strategic interest in strengthening its position as the region’s sole gas transit hub. He said this role is anchored in Egypt’s advanced infrastructure and major investments in liquefaction facilities and transmission networks, ensuring their continued operation and maximizing economic returns.
