Egypt announces agreement reached on composition of committee to govern Gaza

Agreement has been reached on establishing a technocratic committee to govern Gaza, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said Wednesday, as part of preparations for Phase Two of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan, despite the last Israeli hostage still being held in Gaza.

Abdelatty said the committee would soon be announced and deployed to Gaza to manage daily life and provide basic services, stressing that Egypt rejects any division of the Strip and that the body must operate across all of Gaza. He added that Israel must meet its commitments, including withdrawal from the territory.

The committee is expected to hold its first meeting Thursday at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, then operate from a temporary base in Egypt, with five liaison offices to open in Gaza.

The Palestinian Authority welcomed the move and Trump’s efforts, calling for unifying Palestinian institutions in Gaza and the West Bank. Palestinian factions meeting in Cairo also endorsed the plan, thanking Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their roles.
