Israeli defense minister orders to prepare possible evacuations of towns in the north
Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant ordered the IDF Home Front Command to prepare plans for a wide evacuation of towns in the country’s northern region, a decision that was made after the cabinet officially declared a state of war on Sunday.
At the moment, the order is seen as a precautionary measure in case fighting should break out on the northern border with the Hezbollah terror group, in addition to ongoing fighting against Hamas at the Gaza border on Israel's coast.
A number of municipalities close to the northern border recommended that residents who didn’t have a clear reason to stay should prepare to leave their homes temporarily.
Mortar shots were fired from Lebanon at an IDF post on Mt. Dov on Israel’s northern border on Sunday morning. In response, the IDF attacked the Hezbollah firing zone with artillery.
