Cairo monitors Israel’s Qatargate affair, officials say “only us can be trusted”
Egypt has reacted sharply to recent revelations alleging efforts by figures close to Israel’s prime minister to promote Qatar at Egypt’s expense.
According to remarks by Egyptian officials quoted Tuesday by Kan News, the officials said that “systematic negative campaigns by Israeli elements against Cairo have been proven false,” adding that Egypt remains “the only country that can be trusted,” a fact they said is well known to Israel’s security establishment.
The officials stressed that security coordination between Egypt and Israel continues uninterrupted to maintain stability in both countries. Addressing the so-called QatarGate affair, the Egyptian sources said Cairo has acted “responsibly and wisely,” and does not give weight to statements by what they described as extreme politicians in Israel.
