Benny Gantz talks Saudi normalization during discreet U.S. visit
National Unity party leader Benny Gantz arrived in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday to hold talks with U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, according to Gantz's office.
The former Israeli defense minister's visit, nor its purpose, were announced prior to his arrival to the United States.
According to Walla! News, U.S. officials seek to persuade Gantz, who represents one of Israel's government opposition parties, to support a potential normalization deal with Saudi Arabia.
Gantz and his party are currently receiving the most votes in Israeli opinion polls, with some polls projecting National Unity to become the country’s largest party in the next elections.
Israel’s security interests, the promotion of Israel’s integration into the region and confronting threats by Iran and its proxies are reportedly among the other topics to be discussed.
