Australian PM Albanese rejects Netanyahu's accusation of 'weakness & appeasement' after Bondi Beach massacre

Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese rejected accusations made by Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu in the aftermath of the Bondi Beach massacre.

Asked by the the Australian Broadcasting Corporation whether Netanyahu's claim that Australia's recognition of Palestinian statehood earlier this year “poured fuel” on an “antisemitic fire,” Albanese said, “No I don’t.”

Asked about Netanyahu's accusation he had “replaced weakness with weakness and appeasement with more appeasement,” after he had urged him to “replace weakness with action, appeasement with resolve,” Albanese said he wanted to “promote unity.”

“We need to wrap our arms around members of the Jewish community who are going through an extraordinarily difficult period, not just those who are grieving loved ones and friends, but every member of the Jewish community in Australia,” he said.

“This has been an extraordinarily traumatic 24 hours. My job is to provide support for the Jewish community, is to make it clear that Australians overwhelmingly stand with the Jewish community at this difficult time.”
