Attempt to kidnap senior Hamas official in Gaza City thwarted, Palestinians report
Palestinian media reports that a special forces unit operating in Gaza City was exposed, leading to an intense firefight between Hamas operatives and the soldiers, followed by heavy artillery shelling in support of the unit.
According to the Palestinian reports, the special forces unit was attempting to kidnap a senior Hamas official when they were exposed.
It is currently unclear whether the “special forces” are in fact IDF soldiers or an anti-Hamas militia, as some Palestinian accounts on social media are claiming the attempt was made by a militia supported by the IDF.
The military released a vague statement, saying, “The IDF recently attacked a number of targets in the Gaza Strip in order to remove threats to the security forces. There are no casualties to our forces.”
