Ambassador Leiter: Life of my son 'still in danger, but condition stabilized'
"I was afraid I would land without hope," said Israel’s Ambassador to the US, Yehiel Leiter, as he gave a statement to the press at the Jerusalem hospital where his son Neria remains hospitalized in serious condition after a terrorist rammed him with a car near Modi'in yesterday.
Leiter quickly flew back to Israel from the U.S. on Wednesday evening, urging the people of Israel to pray for "a miracle." Dozens of people gathered at the Western Wall to pray for Neria that evening.
Leiter added he is “full of hope that he will come out of it this time and return to us safe and sound,” noting how the situation "is different from the night I received a knock at the door,” referring to the death of his elder son, Maj. (res.) Moshe Yedidya Leiter, who was killed fighting in northern Gaza in November 2023.
“There was no possibility to bring him to hospital and allow Israeli doctors to save his life. And there wasn’t a possibility for us to gather around his bed, say prayers, and mobilize the people of Israel to pray for his recovery,” Leiter said.
